Mariam has always wanted to work in healthcare and chose to be an occupational therapist when she realized the long-lasting beneficial impacts the profession can have on someone. She is a people-person, enjoys the OT-patient interactions and the problem-solving aspect in making one functional again. In the physical sphere, Mariam has experience in lumbar, knee, shoulder, hand, cervical and ankle injuries.

She received her master’s degree in occupational therapy from McGill University in 2022, specializing in physical rehabilitation, mental health and now has a newfound interest in hand therapy. She speaks English, French, Spanish, and Arabic, which allows her to communicate with diverse clientele.

According to Mariam, rehabilitation is a vulnerable process, one that takes a mental and physical toll. Her experience in mental health, having done many of her stages in it and worked in this field, brings about tools that can be used to help her clients overcome the struggles. An injury can remove one’s ability to tie their shoes, take showers and/or climb stairs, some basic functional activities. She considers it a privilege to walk one through their journey to assist them in achieving their goals.
